Good Reasons to Live in Paris

A Christmas gift for my readers:
I just published an article on Helium.com about living in Paris last January while studying at the L'Alliance Française Paris.
Enjoy.
Let me know what you think.

  1. Good article! In America few people have any concept of that type of
urban environment where people prefer to live in the city rather than
the suburbs, where public transport is so omnipresent and where stores
of less than 50,000 square feet are the norm.

You did not comment too much about the French themselves or their
attitude toward French learners. Benny Lewis of fluentin3months.com
wrote an interesting commentary on his blog:

  2. Thanks for your comments.

Although I might have mentioned something about French attitudes, I didn't write about French people here because that is a whole 'nuther subject. I simply wanted to be more descriptive than a travel guide: what is it really like to live in Paris? What can I expect walking down the street? What is there to eat for the average person? What can I do on weekends?

I had a French roommate for about a year before I even thought about going to France. She has answered my questions about French culture for 30 years or so. She is frank about what the French really think and expect. I’m grateful to her for her insights that have helped me appreciate the French so much.

If you really get to know French people, you will find that they can be most loyal and endearing. But it takes time to really know a French person. You aren’t going to make friends fast. If you make a French friend, understand that it will probably be a friendship for life.
